Amazon are known for regularly dropping prices (dozens of time since launch) as they scale up but this is clearly one of their biggest moves ever to compete with other database-as-a-service offerings.
Effective immediately they have dropped the price on Amazon DynamoDB throughput and storage.
Their announcement follows and it was made just as the world was breaking for Easter…
Amazon DynamoDB drops prices by up to 85%
We lowered the price of Amazon DynamoDB throughput by 35% across all AWS Regions and reduced the price of storage by 75% for all customers. These prices will be automatically applied retroactively starting March 1, 2013. You can save even more by using a new billing feature called Reserved Capacity, which is designed for larger scale deployments with a 1-year or 3-year commitment and a one-time upfront fee.
